SERDANG, January 23, 2026 – The Faculty of Educational Studies (FPP), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) organized the program "Appreciating the Nite Journey and Ascension: FPP Recites Blessings" at Read@Uni FPP, Foyer Block A, starting at 10:00 AM. This program aims to foster love for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and to reflect on the great event of Isra and Mi'raj as a source of spiritual strength and religious discipline.
This program, which brings together faculty members, features guest speaker Dr. Izuli Dzulkifli from the Department of Language and Humanities Education, FPP, discussed the meaning of Israk and Mikraj as a journey of faith that reminds Muslims of the greatness of Allah SWT, while also emphasizing the position of a servant before Allah as the highest rank.
In filling it out, Dr. Izuli explained that the Isra event refers to the journey of Prophet Muhammad SAW from the Grand Mosque in Mecca to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Palestine, while the Mi'raj is his ascent from the Al-Aqsa Mosque thru the layers of the heavens to the Sidratul Muntaha. This event is mentioned in Surah Al-Isra verse 1 and detailed in Surah An-Najm verses 13–18, including the meeting of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with the angel Gabriel (peace be upon him) in his original form and the witnessing of the greatness of Allah SWT's creation.
He also emphasized the blessings of Al-Aqsa Mosque as the land of the prophets—the birthplace and deathplace of many messengers and fertile land—as well as the wisdom of the Isra' and Mi'raj taking place at nite, which is the best time to draw closer to Allah with sincerity.
Reviewing the main lessons of the Miraj, Dr. Izuli emphasized that prayer is a gift and invitation from Allah to His servants, as expressed in the saying "as-solatu mi'rajul mukmin" (prayer is the ascension of the believer). The legislation of the five daily prayers—which were originally ordained 50 times before being reduced at the suggestion of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him)—is proof of Allah's mercy toward the followers of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
He also linked the importance of being focused in prayer based on Surah Al-Ankabut verse 45, which emphasizes the role of prayer in preventing evil and wicked deeds. Among the causes of ineffective prayer are negligence in terms of time management, imperfect execution, and a heart that is not present in remembering Allah. Participants were also advised to correct their intentions, understand the recitation of prayers, maintain time discipline, and appreciate prayer as a dialog with Allah SWT.
This program also touches upon the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) period of grief before the Nite Journey and Ascension—the passing of Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) and Abu Talib, as well as the rejection of his call in Taif—which Allah ultimately replaced with the honor of the Nite Journey and Ascension as a strengthening of the soul. Among the recommended practices are increasing voluntary prayers, dhikr, istighfar, reading the Quran, and utilizing the nite to draw closer to Allah.
The organization of the Isra' and Mi'raj Commemoration and FPP Salawat event reflects FPP's commitment to celebrating Islamic holidays in accordance with Sharia law, as well as fostering continuous and consistent worship among university staff.
