Traditional Kueh Preparation Competition in conjunction with Semarak Merdeka Program

16 August 2024, Serdang - In conjunction with the Jalur Gemilang Waving Program organized by the UPM Culture and Arts Center which took place recently, the Faculty of Educational Studies has organized a Traditional Kueh Preparation Competition. The concept of the Competition is that each Department has to prepare one Traditional Kueh: Kueh Dangai, Kueh Abok-abok, Kueh Puteri Mandi, Kueh Sapong, Kueh Puding Raja, Kueh Dangai, Kueh Cek Mek Molek, Kueh Limas, Kueh Akok and Kueh Paong Goreng.

This competition was judged by two judges; Dr. Sazrinee Zainal Abidin from the Faculty of Design and Architecture and Dr Muhammad Rezza Zainal Abidin from the Faculty of Food Science and Technology.

Through this competition, FPP staffs can indirectly appreciate the context of Malaysian heritage and culture such as food, way of life, customs and taboos that can influence the cultural environment of a race found in Malaysia. The legacy of our ancestors can have an impact on the present generation in maintaining heritage and culture.

According to Prof. Wong Su Luan, Professor from the Department of Science and Technical Education, "This Traditional Market-style Kueh Preparation Competition is full of nostalgia and meaning. Hopefully this kind of program can continue in the future."

In addition to traditional cakes that were contested, various other traditional cakes were also prepared by the department and sold to the visitors who attended. Visitors also consist of parties outside FPP.
