AEDS 2026 Brings Together Four Countries, Strengthening ASEAN's Future Education Agenda

BALI, INDONESIA – The ASEAN Education Deans Summit (AEDS) 2026 was successfully held from April 5 to 8, 2026, at Harris Hotel Seminyak, Bali, as a key platform bringing together higher education leadership from the ASEAN region and internationally.
This prestigious program is an initiative of the Council of Deans of Education of Malaysian Public Universities (MEDC), coordinated by the Faculty of Educational Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and co-hosted by Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (UNDIKSHA), Bali as the strategic host. With the theme "Transforming Education for Sustainable Futures in the ASEAN Region," this conference has attracted participants from four countries: Malaysia, Indonesia, China, and Singapore.
The conference was opened with a keynote address by Prof. Associate Professor Dr. Wan Marzuki Wan Jaafar, Chairman of the Council of Deans of Public Universities (MEDC) and Dean of the Faculty of Educational Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia. In his speech, he emphasized that education is not just a system, but the foundation for the future of this region. According to him, "we are not just discussing education, but we are discussing the future of the ASEAN region, because education is the soul of a nation and the foundation of civilization."

He also reminded that the world is now moving rapidly with technological changes, artificial intelligence, and complex global challenges. Therefore, ASEAN needs to act collectively to ensure that the education system remains relevant and competitive. In his emphasis, he urged that educational institutions not only produce academically excellent students but also individuals with values, ethics, and holistic well-being.
Throughout the event, participants were involved in academic presentation sessions, sharing best practices, and strategic discussions involving educational leadership, research networks, academic mobility, and innovation in the digital education ecosystem. This program was also enriched by an academic visit to the Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (UNDIKSHA), Bali, and cultural tours around Bali.
The highlight of AEDS 2026 was the presentation of the "Bali Declaration on ASEAN Education 2026" Resolution by the Chairperson of MEDC as an important document that serves as a guide for a more inclusive, sustainable, and globally competitive direction for ASEAN higher education.
The organization of AEDS 2026 is hoped to continue strengthening the network of strategic cooperation among higher education institutions in the region and to serve as a catalyst for progressive and high-impact educational development at the ASEAN level.
