BACKGROUND
The Department of Science and Technical Education is one of the six departments in the Faculty Educational Studies at Universiti Putra Malaysia. Established in 2002, the department strives for excellence in teaching and learning, research, consultancy, and extension services in the following fields:
ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
Bachelor's of Education (B.Ed.)
These programs are offered by the Department of Science and Technical Education. The department also provides secondary concentration or minor areas in Design and Technology, Mathematics Education, and Science Education.
To produce skilled and competent graduates, the curriculum for the Bachelor of Education in Agricultural Science with Honors and the Bachelor of Education in Home Science with Honors programs includes courses offered by the Faculty of Educational Studies and several other faculties within UPM. These faculties include the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Faculty of Human Ecology, Faculty of Economics and Management, and Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication.
Graduates with degrees in the Bachelor of Education in Agricultural Science with Honors and the Bachelor of Education in Home Science with Honors are recognized to serve in both public and private school systems in Malaysia
The department also offers postgraduate programs such as the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Doctor of Education (Ed.D.), Master of Science (M.Sc.), and Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Technical and Vocational Education, Educational Administration, and Educational Technology.
For the Ph.D. and M.Sc. programs, students need to complete coursework and a thesis, alongside other graduation requirements such as comprehensive exams, mandatory courses, and publication papers.
For the Ed.D. program, students must complete coursework comprising mandatory, core, and elective courses, as well as a thesis and other graduation requirements like publication papers and internships.
For the M.Ed. program, students need to complete coursework and a dissertation, along with other graduation requirements such as mandatory courses, electives, and internships.

Research
Research is one of the primary activities at the Department of Science and Technical Education. Specific research areas include Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Agricultural Science Education, Home Science Education, Design and Technology, Mathematics Education, Science Education, and Educational Technology.

Consultancy and Extension Services
The department's consultancy and extension services involve various public and private sector agencies such as the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, Ministry of Education Malaysia, Ministry of Human Resources, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Malaysian Counseling Board, National Accreditation Board, and many more.
Academic Staff
The department has trained and expert academic staff in their respective fields. Currently, the department has 18 active academic staff members.
Support Staff
The department also has qualified and skilled support staff. Currently, there are 14 active support staff members.
