Serdang, 29 May 2024 (Wednesday) - The Little Chef 1.0 Program was held from 10.00am to 4.30pm at the Food Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Education, Universiti Putra Malaysia. This program is a collaboration between the University Community Transformation Center (UCTC), UPM and the Faculty of Education. A total of 20 participants consisting of children aged 9 to 15 have participated in this program.
The objective of this program is to provide participants with basic household knowledge and skills. This one-day program is run by Dr. Rahimah Jamaluddin assisted by Mrs. Aziela Zainun and 5 facilitators from UCTC, UPM staff. Participants were taught how to devein fish, cut chicken, prepare crispy chicken dishes, fried fish and vegetable soup. In the afternoon participants learned cupcake decorating techniques.
The results of the participants' cooking were evaluated by two judges consisting of the Deputy Director (Community Development) of the PM. Dr. Jasronita Jasri and Dr. Farah Adibah Che Ishak senior lecturer, Department of Food Service and Management, Faculty of Food Science & Technology, UPM. The certificate presentation ceremony and winners were completed by the Deputy Director (Agricultural Development), PM Dr. Norsida Man and accompanied by the Deputy Dean (Research, Innovation and Funding), FPP Dr. Mohd Faiq Abd Aziz and Head of Science and Technical Education Department, Ts. Dr. Mohd. Hazwan Mohd Puad.
This program is expected to open the minds of children about the importance of learning basic household skills while also opening their minds to see this field of skills as a prestigious career.
