Workshop on Creative Crafts from Used Fabric Empowers Communities Thru the Community@UniMADANI Project

Serdang, January 2026 – The Faculty of Educational Studies (FPP), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) remains committed to empowering the community thru the organization of four (4) series of Creative Fabric Craft Workshops using Recycled Materials under the Komuniti@UniMADANI Project, which took place throughout January 2026 at the Clothing Technology Laboratory, FPP.
This workshop involves participants from diverse backgrounds and provides exposure to skills in producing creative craft products based on used fabrics, such as EcoCard Holders, Sustainable Cute Bags, Premium Clutch Bags, and Denim Tote Bags. The hands-on learning approach implemented not only enhances participants' sewing skills but also fosters awareness of sustainability practices, creativity, and entrepreneurial potential.

Community@UniMADANI Project Leader, Dr. Rahimah Jamaluddin said this workshop is not just a skills training program, but also serves as a human development platform that has a lasting impact on the community.
"Through this workshop, we are not only training participants to produce creative craft products, but also providing an opportunity for existing project trainees to act as instructors and facilitators. "This approach helps build self-confidence, communication skills, and real-world experience in transferring knowledge to the community," he explained.
Throughout the workshop, the active, collaborative, and inclusive learning environment was evident thru the two-way interaction between the facilitator, trainees, and participants. The resulting products prove that used fabric has the potential to be processed into practical, creative, and commercially valuable items.
This initiative simultaneously reflects the commitment of the Faculty of Educational Studies, UPM, in strengthening university-community relations in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, as well as producing individuals who are skilled, independent, and sensitive to environmental sustainability.
