SERDANG, 1st JUNE 2024 - The Gray Oyster Mushroom Cultivation Training Program for the Visually Impaired, their family members and members of the UPM-MAB Volunteer Squad was implemented on 1 June 2024. This training program is part of the knowledge transfer intervention for the 'Inclusive Agro' community project which is in the pilot phase. The objective of this community project is to develop urban agricultural entrepreneurs among the visually impaired.

According to the project leader, Y.Brs PM Dr. Nor Wahiza Abdul Wahat, this training program is organized by The Department of Professional Development and Continuing Education, Faculty of Educational Studies in collaboration with the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) and expertise from the Faculty of Educational Studies, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University Community Transformation Center and UPM Putra Agricultural Center. This training program also received sponsorship from VACCET Sdn Bhd, Binaree Cafe and MASAAKI Sdn Bhd.

The gray oyster mushroom cultivation training program attended by a total of 12 visually impaired participants with companions (family members/friends), 8 volunteers and 2 representatives from the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Malaysia (HFEM) included the Gray Oyster Mushroom Cultivation slot delivered by Y.Brs Mrs. Zaliza Mahat (PPP). The facilitators of this slot consist of Y.Brs Mrs. Junizawati Mohd Zin (PPP), Y.Brs Mrs. Ainul Mardhiyyah Mohamed Ghazali (UCTC) and Y.Brs Mrs. Faridah Abdullah (UCTC).

While the Health and Safety slot for Gray Oyster Mushroom Cultivation was presented by Y.Brs PM Dr. Ng Yee Guan from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. He is also the OSH Director of UPM. While the 'IOT' Usage Slot in Gray Oyster Mushroom Cultivation was presented by T.S Dr. Ng Keng Yap and T.S PM Dr. Yusmadi Yah Jusoh from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology.
