January 15, 2026, Serdang – A total of 49 Bachelor of Malay Language Education students from the Faculty of Educational Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), implemented a program titled "Integration of Technology in Reading Skills Activities for Form 3 Religious Stream (KAA) Students of SMK Seri Indah" at FPP in collaboration with the school.
This program is conducted under the course LHE 3105 - Teaching Malay Reading Skills, under the supervision of Dr.
Halimah Jamil, and aims to provide prospective teachers with practical exposure to Malay language teaching and the application of digital technology in learning.
This program provides students with the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge gained at university to real-world learning situations. Throughout the program, various interactive activities were conducted to engage students and enhance their understanding of the reading texts. These include the use of digital readings, animated videos, multimedia presentations, online quizzes, and educational app-based activities.
Additionally, one of the main attractions of this program is the use of creative teaching aids self-made by Bachelor of Malay Language Education with Honors students. These materials include interactive flashcards, learning posters, activity books, and digital props specially designed to help students understand reading texts and add an element of fun to learning activities. This innovation not only enhances student engagement but also allows future teachers to practice pedagogical design skills and creativity in their teaching.
This program was attended by 34 students from Form 3 Religious Stream Class (KAA) of SMK Seri Indah, indicating a very encouraging level of participation. UPM students who served as facilitators also had the opportunity to practice teaching strategies, communication skills, and teamwork, thereby building their self-confidence as future teachers.
As the course lecturer, Dr. Halimah Jamil emphasized that such initiatives not only help students master pedagogical skills but also highlight their professionalism in delivering creative and effective teaching. He also hopes that this program can be continued in the future as a platform to empower education and produce educators who are creative, knowledgeable, and attentive to students' needs.
This program also strengthens the relationship between universities and schools, allowing both parties to share pedagogical knowledge and experience. Students, on the other hand, enjoy a more fun, interactive, and inspiring learning experience that increases their interest in reading. The implementation of such programs proves that the combination of digital technology and creative teaching aids can make learning Malay more effective and enjoyable.
The highest appreciation is recorded to SMK Seri Indah, the Faculty of Educational Studies UPM, and all students who were directly and indirectly involved in the success of this program. The success of this program not only benefits the participating students but also strengthens cooperation between universities and schools in efforts to improve the quality of teaching and learning. Beside increasing students' interest in reading, this program also helps future teachers build self-confidence, hone their creativity in producing teaching aids, and understand students' needs more deeply. Practical experiences like this allow students to apply pedagogical theory in a real-world context, thus producing more prepared and professional educators.
