SERDANG, 11 November – The Malaysian Physical Fitness Test (UKJM) was successfully conducted at the Department of Sports Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) with the participation of 61 students from the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Melayu Perempuan Campus, Melaka.
This test aims to assess and recognize the participants' level of physical fitness through seven main components of fitness that evaluate cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, flexibility, coordination, basic motor skills, and body composition. This method provides a comprehensive and scientifically structured overview of an individual's physical capabilities.
According to the Head of the Department of Sports Studies, Dr. Borhannudin Abdullah, fitness levels should not be evaluated solely based on Body Mass Index (BMI). BMI is used to determine a person's weight range, whether they are underweight, normal weight, or overweight. However, it does not reflect overall fitness levels. "A comprehensive assessment needs to take into account aspects of cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, flexibility, and movement coordination," he said.
This participation not only tests physical abilities but also highlights discipline, commitment, and sportsmanship among the participants. Programs like this also serve as a platform for collaboration between UPM and IPG in strengthening the professional development of active, knowledgeable, and competitive educators.
In closing, the highest appreciation and thanks are extended to the faculty of the Department of Sports Studies, the instructors of IPG Melaka, and all UPM facilitators and students who have successfully organized this program with full dedication. This joint effort is expected to be continued as an ongoing commitment toward producing holistic, active, and healthy graduates in line with the aspirations of Universiti Putra Malaysia.
