FPP STUDENTS LIVE A LIFE OF SERVICE THRU A VOLUNTEER MISSION WITH STREET FRIENDS

Kuala Lumpur, May 16, 2026 – A total of 33 students from the Faculty of Educational Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) participated in the Jiwa Prihatin: Menyemai Budi, Kasih Insani program to support the street community around the capital. The program, which took place at the Singgah Teduh Nur Qaseh Welfare and Da'wah Center, was organized by the Spiritual and Unity Exco of the Faculty Representative Council (FEDSSCO), UPM, with the aim of fostering humanitarian values, a spirit of volunteerism, and social awareness among students.
The program also serves as a platform for students to directly apply elements of humanistic education thru interaction with the local community. This community-based approach not only strengthens the relationship between educational institutions and society but also helps shape future educators who are more empathetic, people-oriented, and sensitive to the realities of the less fortunate.
Various meaningful activities were carried out throughout the program, including the Putra Tani: Sustainable Hydroponics slot, which provided exposure to the basics of hydroponic planting and the importance of sustainable agriculture as an effort to empower community life skills. In addition, the Soul Therapy slot: From Heart to Heart thru origami activities successfully created a relaxed and interactive atmosphere, while the Soul Touch slot: A Million Mother's Love provided participants with the opportunity to appreciate the values of love, respect, and emotional support for those in need.

According to the Program Director, Muhammad Afif Farhan, programs like this provide opportunities for students of the Faculty of Education to get closer to the community and understand the real-life challenges faced by the street friends community. He also emphasized that such field experiences can shape students who are not only excellent academically but also possess high values of compassion, leadership, and social responsibility.
Also present to support the program was Dr. Nor Azni Abdul Aziz, Deputy Dean (Academic, Student, and Alumni), expressed appreciation for the commitment and volunteer spirit demonstrated by the students throughout the program. He also described the active involvement of students in community programs as an important effort in producing holistic and competitive graduates in line with the university's aspirations.
As a conclusion to the program, the participants were taken around the Chow Kit area for a food pack distribution session and to witness the reality of street friends' lives in that area. This experience had a profound impact on the students as they had the opportunity to understand community welfare issues more closely, thereby instilling a sense of gratitude, empathy, and awareness of the importance of the community's role in helping those in need.
The Jiwa Prihatin Program: Nurturing Kindness, Human Compassion proves that students from the Faculty of Education are not only excellent in academics but are also capable of becoming active social change agents who are aware of the community's well-being. Such initiatives are also hoped to continue strengthening the culture of volunteerism and producing future educators who are community-minded and grounded in humanitarian values.
