SERDANG, December 26, 2025 – The Faculty of Educational Studies (FPP), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has organized a gotong-royong (GORO) activity to tidy up and clean the faculty area following the recent heavy rain that caused several dead trees to fall and crush the FPP building's roof. This immediate action was taken as a proactive step to ensure the safety of faculty members and reduce the risk of similar incidents recurring in the future.
The GORO activity involved the participation of FPP staff, including academic and non-academic personnel, in line with the implementation of the Public Sector Conducive Ecosystem Practices (EKSA), which emphasizes aspects of cleanliness, safety, and workplace environment management. The cleanup work includes cutting and removing dead trees and hazardous branches, clearing wood debris, and tidying up the areas around the buildings affected by the incident.
According to Puan Nadiah Kamaruddin, the EKSA FPP Coordinator, this gotong-royong activity is not only aimed at addressing the immediate effects of heavy rain but also serves as a preventive measure to avoid the risk of falling trees that could threaten safety and damage faculty infrastructure. Thru the practice of EKSA, the aspects of safety and environmental cleanliness are always given priority. "Clearing dead trees and the surrounding area is important to reduce the risk of unwanted incidents, especially during unpredictable weather," he explained.
He also added that a clean and well-maintained environment can prevent mosquito breeding, especially in areas that are prone to water accumulation after rain. "This step indirectly helps ensure that FPP residents are in a healthy, safe environment free from the risk of mosquito-borne diseases," he said.
The implementation of this GORO reflects FPP's ongoing commitment to supporting the sustainable campus agenda and strengthening teamwork among faculty members. It is hoped that continuous efforts thru EKSA will create a more conducive, safe, and prosperous learning and working environment for the entire FPP community.
