Serdang, 21 April 2026 – The Faculty of Educational Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) successfully held the Closing Ceremony of the Community@UniMADANI Project: Creative Crafts from Used Fabrics, officiated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Network), Professor Dr. Shamsul Bahri Hj. Md Tamrin. Also present, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Associate Professor Dr. Wan Marzuki Wan Jaafar and the Deputy Director of the University Community Transformation Center (UCTC), Prof. Associate Professor Dr. Jasronita Jasni.
This nine-month project, running from May 2025 to April 2026, involves 50 participants from the B40 women group, single mothers, housewives, and persons with disabilities (PWD). Participants are guided in phases in creative craft skills based on used fabrics, entrepreneurship, and marketing, thereby opening up income generation opportunities and supporting sustainability practices thru recycling.

The closing ceremony held at Auditorium 2, Faculty of Education featured exhibitions, demonstrations, and sales of products made by the participants as a platform to introduce the products to the community.
In his opening speech, YBhg. Professor Dr. Shamsul Bahri emphasized that this project reflects the role of the university as a catalyst for community development thru the transfer of knowledge and expertise. According to him, the holistic approach that encompasses skills training, entrepreneurship, and self-confidence development has formed a structured and high-impact community empowerment model, with the potential to be expanded to a wider level.
He also stated that the success of this project demonstrates the importance of strategic collaboration between universities, government agencies, industry partners, and the community in generating sustainable social impact, in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI.
Project Leader, Dr. Rahimah Jamaluddin informed that this program not only enhances the technical skills of the participants but also successfully builds self-confidence and an entrepreneurial spirit for independence.
The organization of this project simultaneously strengthens UPM's role in the Industrial and Community Network (JINM) agenda toward the development of an inclusive, competitive, and sustainable community.
