MASTER OF EDUCATION (M.Ed.)


Programme Requirements

The Master of Education degree is conferred to graduate students who have met the following requirements:

1. Maintain a cumulative grade point of average (CGPA) of at least 3.00.
2. Successfully completed all courses (40 credits, 51 credits for Guidance & Counselling program) as specified by the
students academic advisors within the time specified by the Graduate School Office.

MASTER OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (M.HRD.)


Programme Requirements

The Master of Human Resource Development degree is conferred to graduate students who
have met the following requirements:

  1. Maintain a cumulative grade point of average (CGPA) of at least 3.00.
  2. Successfully completed all courses (40 credits) as specified by the students academic advisors within the time specified by the Graduate School Office.

 

MASTER OF SCIENCE (M.S.)

Programme Requirements

The Master of Science degree is conferred to graduate students who
have met the following requirements:

1. Enrolled for two (2) courses (Research Methods and Statistics) as required
by Faculty.
2. Register SPS5999 (Master Research). At the end of the programme a student has to submit a thesis based on the research conducted. The thesis will be examined and a viva voce session will be conducted to determine the student’s competency in the field of study.
3. All students must register and pass a seminar course SPS5903 (Seminar)
4. All students in programmes with thesis who commenced their study from Second Semester 2016/2017 onwards are required to publish the findings of their research in journal article(s). 
       
         a. The criteria of the publication for Master degree is One (1) journal article published or accepted
            (in Citation Indexed Journal).

        
b. Before sitting for the viva voce, the student is required to provide a certified copy of the acceptance letter and/ or written evidence of submission of his/her manuscript to a journal.

        
c. Failure to provide the relevant document shall not prevent the student from sitting for the viva voce. However, if passed, the result will not considered for conferment of a degree by Senate until the required documents is/are submitted.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (Ph.D.)

Introduction

The programme aims at preparing students with an in-depth knowledge pertaining to the philosophy, theories and practices in the proposed field of study. Through this programme students analyse, synthesise and evaluate critically the proposed field of study. This programme is targeted for individuals who wish to enhance his/her scholarship in the proposed field of study.

Programme Requirements

The Doctor of Philosophy degree is conferred to graduate students who have met the following requirements:

1. Successfully enrolled for two (2) Reseach as required by Faculty.
2. Register for SPS6999 (Doctoral Research). At the end of the programme as student has to submit a Doctor of Philosophy thesis based on the research conducted. The thesis will be examined and a viva voce will be conducted to determine the student’s competency in the field of study.
3. A Ph.D student must pass a written and oral comprehensive examination. The examination is taken once the student has completed all courses as specified in the programme of study. A student is permitted to sit for the comprehensive examination for not more than two times.
4. Prior to conducting a doctoral research and after having passed the comprehensive  examination, a student must present a Ph.D research proposal at the faculty level for approval from the Faculty Graduate Studies Committee. A Ph.D student must register for SPS6903 (Seminar) latest by the third (3) semester to present his or her Ph.D research proposal. This course will be graded (M) Satisfactory/ (TM) Unsatisfactory.
5. All students in programmes with thesis who commenced their study from Second Semester 2016/2017 onwards are required to publish the findings of their research in journal article(s) (Senate, Minute 513.05).

          a. The criteria of the publication for Ph.D degree are :
         i. Two (2) journal article published or accepted (in Citation Indexed Journal). 
                

        Note : A book chapter for students in the social sciences is considered as being equivalent to one journal article.
